Judge Suspended Over Fake Medical Bill Claim

Judge Suspended Over Fake Medical Bill Claim The Kerala High Court has suspended a judge of the Thrissur Magistrate Court following a comprehensive investigation into a fake medical bill claim. Judicial First Class Magistrate Tiara Rose Mary was put under suspension after an inquiry conducted by the High Court found that the medical bills submitted for reimbursement were fraudulent. This significant order by the High Court underscores its commitment to judicial integrity and accountability. The controversy arose when Magistrate Mary, who was serving as the 3rd Additional Munsiff Magistrate in Thrissur, sought reimbursement for expenses related to "beauty-related" cosmetic treatment, which is typically not covered under government medical reimbursement rules. Her initial claim was rejected by the District Medical Officer (DMO). Subsequently, when the bill was resubmitted to the High Court, doubts about the authenticity of the accompanying documents prompted a detailed investigation. The inquiry revealed a fake DMO seal on the bill, a forged signature, and other fraudulent supporting documents, leading the High Court to conclude the claim was not genuine. Based on these findings, the High Court's administrative committee initiated disciplinary proceedings, resulting in the magistrate's six-month suspension. Further action will depend on the outcome of a departmental inquiry. This incident, which is not the first time Tiara Rose Mary has been in the news for administrative issues, highlights the judiciary's strict stance on ethical conduct and financial accountability, reinforcing that even judicial officers are subject to rigorous scrutiny regarding the use of public funds and adherence to rules.
