Karnataka Lawyers Set for Enhanced Death and Retirement Benefits
Good news is on the horizon for Karnataka's lawyer community, with the state government contemplating a substantial increase in death compensation and retirement benefits. To support these enhancements, a proposal is underway to establish a corpus fund. State Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil disclosed that this fund would not only boost the current death compensation and retirement sums under the Karnataka Advocates Welfare Fund but also be utilized to develop government programs for lawyers' health facilities.
The Minister's announcement came in response to an assembly query regarding a potential government proposal to offer discounted health insurance to private lawyers and their families, mirroring benefits for government employees, and its extension to all bar associations in Dharwad district. He confirmed that the proposal for the corpus fund, aiming to significantly raise retirement benefits and death compensation, alongside creating health facility programs for lawyers, is under active review. Additionally, the government continues its incentive grant scheme for new law graduates, with 23 from Dharwad district already selected, and a proposal to review the annual income for this scheme is also being considered.
